2011 Open Studios
Open Studios 2011 will take place on the weekend of October 22nd and 23rd with the reception on Friday night, October 21st.
In addition to group sites featuring visual artists at First Parish Church, Pearl Street Studios, Humphreys Street Studios and Walter Baker Lofts, and individual home studios, this year's Open Studios is featuring two performance sites and a screening of three films.
On Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. at The Great Hall in Codman Square, the following groups and individuals will perform:
11:45 – 12:15 Krisjin Williams & the Family Dinner -A fusion of true hip hop and rock
12:30 – 1:00 Bethel Steele -Bethel Steele is a regionally-touring singer-songwriter whose solo performance has been described as being reminiscent of Joan Armatrading, Ani DiFranco and Neil Young. Bethel has a full length studio album "Come Home" which features a full band and is currently working on a second CD to be released next Spring.
1:10 – 1:30 Stephen Alkins -Stephen Alkins is a Boston-bred neuroscientist, poet, educator, and lover of the arts. Moreover, he is a human embracing all of its frailty and invincibility.
1:35 - 1:45 Joan Green and Glynis Loman: Interpretive dance to cello
1:45 – 2:15 Evens Gregoire -Evens Gregoire is a native Haitian pop rock Christian artist who also sings social conscious music about poverty and the love of his country, Haiti. He has represented Haiti through his music in Africa, Jamaica, and the US and is currently on tour with his recently released album, Sel Opsyon An.
2:30 – 3:00 Love Queens Who Suffer From Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - A choreopoem in homage to Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls these women poetically describe their lives and experiences.
3:15 – 3:45 Shea Rose -Shea Rose is a soulful, feisty, rockin' storyteller and performer with traces of blues, folk, jazz, and rock influence
4:00 – 4:30 Krisjin Williams & the Family Dinner - A fusion of true hip hop and rock
4:30 – 5:00 China Fox - China Fox is a 7-piece Funk/Soul/Pop group comprised of students from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. They have played a number of different venues around Boston. In honor of their recently released EP, "Shadow Sounds," China Fox went on a summer tour through the Midwest and is ready for more performances.
12:00 - 5:00 Kreyol Still Life Installation -Haitian avant-garde Fashion Designer, Joelle Jean-Fontaine, presents a fashion & home goods still art installation by Kreyol, a fashion label providing design & styling services.
